Where it Grows: Grows in moderately dry plains, open areas, grows near sage, sweet grass and wild onions
How to Identify: Red flowers, sometimes a dark purplish color, similar petal shape to shooting star flower, grows often in bunches.
Red Columbine was used as a food source, medicinal, and body use. Seeds were eaten whole or could be ground into flour. Infusions were used to treat heart conditions, bladder, kidney, headaches, and fevers. Columbine was used as a wash for hair or poison ivy. It also was used as perfume by women and a love charm by men.
