Interfaith Learning Garden

Interfaith Learning Garden provides a wide range of activities both related to the garden, and beyond normal gardening activities. We teach workshops related to our Food Recovery Program as well as activities made for specifically for fun!

May Events

May 21 - 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

At this event participants will get to build bird houses to take home and put in their own backyards. Information about how to attract and protect birds that use bird houses will be given. Instructions and materials will be provided. Suitable for all ages. Make sure to register so we know how much supplies we need! Space is limited.

May 27 - 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

On this day we will be planting all our crops for the season. The event will go from 9:00-3:00 or until everything is planted for the year. Show up at whatever time works for you and stay however long you want. Instructions will be provided. Volunteers of all levels of experience are welcome to come participate. Activities for kids will be provided and there will be refreshments for those who come and help. Suitable for all ages. Registration is not required but is recommended so we know how many people to expect and at what times.

May 31 - 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

This workshop is intended for those who have limited or no experience in the garden. Basics such as how to plant various plants, how to water your plants, and how to identify if your plant is unhappy will be taught. This workshop is primarily educational and is aimed at adults. Registration is not required but is recommended so that we know how many people to expect.

June Events

From June 11th-19th it is National Garden Days! Enjoy the various workshops planned for this week and the big party to wrap it all up.

Thursdays June 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 - 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Running every Thursday in June, guided yoga will be provided by a guest volunteer. Participants need only to bring their own yoga mat and some water to enjoy these relaxing sessions. Suitable for all ages. Make sure to register so we know how many people to expect! Space is limited.

Tuesdays June 7, 14, 21, and 28 - 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

Every Tuesday Afternoon? Seniors are invited to come enjoy some time outside in our garden. Garden as desired and enjoy spending time outside in our relaxing garden with other seniors. Registration is not required but is recommended so that we know how many people to expect.

June 8 - 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

In this workshop participants will learn how to make simple macrame plant hangers. These plant hangers provided the perfect way to grow some plants inside when you don’t have any counter space. Instructions and all materials will be provided. Participants will make a macrame plant hanger to take home and be provided with a pot to grow a plant in. Suitable for all ages. Make sure to register so we know how much supplies we need! Space is limited.

June 13 - 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

At this workshop participants will learn that gardening doesn’t have to be done in a big square planter, but rather almost anything can become a garden. Information such as what can be used as a pot, and what plants can fit in different sizes of containers will be taught. This workshop is primarily educational and is aimed at adults. Registration is not required but is recommended so that we know how many people to expect.

June 15 - 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

This workshop teaches the basics of what square foot gardening is and how to start your own square foot garden. It also will explore what companion planting is and which plants to put together, and which to keep apart. This workshop is primarily educational and is aimed at adults. Registration is not required but is recommended so that we know how many people to expect.

June 17 - 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm

This event will be a big celebration of National Garden Days and will take place in our garden. Lunch will be provided to enjoy in our outdoor space. There will be crafts, games, and activities for both kids and adults to enjoy. Registration is not required but is recommended so that we know how much food to buy!

June 25 - 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm

July Events

Tuesdays July 5, 12, 19, and 26 - 10:00 am to 11:00 am

This program provides an opportunity for kids to get out into the garden, learning and experiencing how to care for plants. Drop your kids off for a fun and educational gardening experience. Children ages 5 and up are welcome.

July 6 - 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm

At this workshop participants will learn how to make their own sugar and salt scrubs. All materials will be provided, and participants will leave with some fun scrubs to use in a shower or bath. Suitable for all ages.

July 11 - 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

This workshop will go over how and when to harvest various vegetables, fruits, and herbs. This workshop is primarily educational and is aimed at adults.

July 19 - 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm

At this workshop the various methods of herb drying will be taught and participants will prepare some herbs to bring home and dry. How to use fresh or dried herbs to make tea will also be taught, and participants will be able to try some unique teas from plants fresh from our garden. Suitable for all ages.

July 21 - 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

At this workshop participants will learn the process of canning and pickling. Participants will pickle carrots to bring home and enjoy. All materials are provided. Suitable for all ages.

July 23 - 10:00 am

Pico de Gallo is a delicious fresh salsa. At this workshop participants will get to make fresh Pico de Gallo out of vegetables and herbs collected from our garden. Once made, participants can sit outside and enjoy their yummy snack. Suitable for all ages.

August Events

August 2 - 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm

This workshop will introduce participants to various methods of flower pressing. Come collect and press flowers from our garden to take home. Suitable for all ages.

August 6 - 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

At this event participants will make fresh lemonade mixed with herbs from our garden for extra flavour. Once the lemonade is made, participants can sit back and enjoy the finished product. Suitable for all ages.

August 10 - 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

This workshop will teach participants how to can and make their own jam. All materials will be provided, and participants will make some delicious jam to take home and enjoy. Suitable for all ages. 

August 12 - 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Come enjoy an evening in the garden making string art. String art involves hammering nails into wood outlining a design, and then filling it in with string. All the materials needed will be provided and participants will get to take home their finished project. Suitable for all ages.

August 13 - 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm

At this workshop participants will learn the process of canning and pickling. Participants will make pickles to bring home and enjoy. All materials are provided. Suitable for all ages.

August 17 - 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

This workshop teaches participants how to make their own candles. Using fresh flowers and herbs from the garden and essential oils, these candles will not only be beautiful but will also smell great. All materials are provided, and participants will be able to take home some lovely candles of their own creation. Suitable for all ages.

August 20 - 10:00 am to 12:00 pm

August 26 - 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm

In this fun educational workshop, participants will be introduced to the concept of eating flowers. Participants will get to explore our garden and taste the flowers we have here and learn about what other sorts of edible flowers they can grow at home. Suitable for all ages.
