Wild Bergamot

Plant Information

Where it Grows: Grows in open plains that are moist to moderately dry, found in BC, Alberta and stretching down to Mexico

How to Identify: Purple Flowers, sometimes dark red flowers and a long square stem. A relative of wild mint and has a strong spicy smell, it is edible and has a lemony/citrus pepper like taste.

Uses

Bergamot was used to treat eye conditions, stomach ailments, and helped with acne. Blossoms were boiled and used to make an eyewash. Leaves and blossoms were boiled to make tea for stomach pains. Boiled leaves were applied to acne pustules.
